Norton Malbec Barrel Select 2024
Introduction
Bodega Norton is a prestigious Argentine winery situated in the Mendoza region, established in 1895 by English engineer Sir Edmund James Palmer Norton. In 1989, the estate was acquired by Austrian businessman Gernot Langes-Swarovski, and it is currently operated by Michael Halstrick under a philosophy that blends high-quality winemaking with deep respect for the traditional Argentine process. The winery is celebrated for its commitment to innovation and its significant role in establishing Mendoza’s high-altitude vineyards as a premier source for world-class Malbec.
Wine Description
The Norton Malbec Barrel Select displays a clear, medium ruby colour with vibrant violet hues. The nose is expressive and rich, offering a bouquet of ripe plum, blackcurrant, and figs, complemented by hints of anise, black pepper, and spicy vanilla. On the palate, the wine is dry and full bodied with a firm structure, featuring balanced acidity and friendly, well-integrated tannins. Flavours of lush black fruit and sweet spices lead into a persistent, medium-length finish marked by notes of toasted oak. This 100% Malbec is crafted from grapes grown at elevations between 850 and 1,100 metres above sea level, with 50% of the wine aged for 12 months in French oak to achieve a delicate balance between fruit vibrancy and wood complexity. While delightful upon release, this wine has an optimal drinking window of five to seven years.
