Lingua Franca Estate Pinot Noir 'Tongue 'n Cheek' 2022

Lingua Franca Estate Pinot Noir 'Tongue 'n Cheek' 2022

This vibrant red wine originates from the United States, carrying the Eola-Amity Hills AVA designation within Oregon's celebrated Willamette Valley. Lingua Franca was co-founded in 2015 by master sommelier Larry Stone and iconic Burgundian winemaker Dominique Lafon, driven by a desire to explore the region's unique terroirs. The estate is guided by a winemaking philosophy focused on organic and regenerative farming practices, utilizing a gravity-flow winery overseen by winemaker Thomas Savre to capture optimal freshness, tension, and complexity.

Wine Description

The 2022 Tongue 'n Cheek Pinot Noir presents a dark ruby colour with faint purple reflections in the glass. The nose is highly complex and delicate, unfolding heady, expressive aromas of wild mountain berries, dark black cherries, and dried pomegranates mingled with fragrant violet petals, graphite, and savory spices like anise, clove, and cinnamon. On the palate, this medium-bodied wine feels sleek, silky, and beautifully poised. It delivers an intense, focused core of blueberry and red raspberry fruit neatly framed by a simmering backbone of mineral-tinged acidity and fine, well-integrated tannins. Subtle undercurrents of smoky black tea, forest floor, and potpourri add marvelous savory depth to its supple texture. Crafted from 100% Pinot Noir, the fruit for this specific cuvée is 100% destemmed and fermented with wild yeasts before being aged for 12 months in French oak barrels (25% new) and resting for an additional 4 months in stainless steel. Showing a more structural frame than previous editions, its optimal drinking window spans from 2025 through 2034.

Vintage Quality

The 2022 vintage in the Willamette Valley began with a cold and rainy spring that induced a late frost, though the resilient, late-starting Pinot Noir vines remained largely unaffected. A hot midsummer heatwave successfully kicked off the bloom period, followed by a calm, moderate ripening season that allowed the grapes to achieve optimal phenolic maturity, brilliant flavor density, and a keen acid structure.
