Krug Blanc de Noir 'Clos d'Ambonnay' 2006

Krug Blanc de Noir 'Clos d'Ambonnay' 2006 originates from France, within the prestigious Champagne region and the historic Ambonnay Grand Cru subregion. The house of Krug was founded in 1843 by Joseph Krug, a visionary who sought to craft the ultimate Champagne every year regardless of seasonal climate variations. The winemaking philosophy behind this ultra-prestige 'tête de cuvée' focuses on showcasing the absolute purity of a single, walled 0.68-hectare monopoly vineyard plot in the heart of Ambonnay. This release represents only the sixth vintage edition ever produced from this legendary vineyard since its inaugural 1995 harvest.

Wine Description

This sparkling wine presents a deep, luminous golden colour with shimmering copper highlights in the glass and possesses a heavy, full-bodied structure with a voluminous, muscular, and exceptionally precise texture. The sensory profile is incredibly concentrated, expressive, and complex, opening with an intense nose of candied apple, baked plum tart, and spices, woven with aromas of dates, bitter orange, smoke, and roasted hazelnuts. On the opulent and vinous palate, it delivers deep flavours of black cherry, salted caramel, and citrus peel, beautifully integrated with notes of toasted almonds, praline, and a sophisticated touch of gastronomic bitterness. The finish is remarkably long, structured, and saline, leaving a lingering trail of redcurrant acidity and smoky minerality.

  • Varietal Composition: 100% Pinot Noir.

  • Stylistic Notes: The wine is celebrated for its verticality, power, and graceful balance, displaying a harmonious interplay of solar warmth and a crisp, mineral-driven backbone. To achieve its spectacular refinement, the wine spent more than 15 years ageing on its lees in the deep chalk cellars of Krug before a highly limited disgorgement. Only 4,514 individually numbered bottles were produced, representing an exceptional rarity for collectors.

  • ABV: 12.5%.

  • Organic Status: While the estate meticulously manages its single plot with dedicated hand labour to capture the pure expression of the terroir, this commercial release is not certified organic.
